Somewhere between R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk, Rock and Soul lays the sound of Grammy winning recording artist Miguel. With such a unique blend of sounds he has cemented himself as a star in the music industry. Fresh off the release of his third studio album titled Wildheart, Miguel is steadily building on his relatively short but successful career.
Born Miguel Jontel Pimentel, he aspired to have a career in music ever since his early teenage years. He began writing songs at the early age of 14 years old. Through years of struggling to breakthrough to the mainstream, he finally made it. It took time as he had to go through 3 different music labels before he truly was able to create himself the way he had envisioned. Fast forward 15 years later and now Miguel has worked to write songs alongside such icons as Usher, Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey. Not only that but he has launched himself into superstardom as an artist with his outstanding music.
Though he is generally grouped into R&B music, he is anything but your stereotypical R&B star. If you see him conduct himself at a live performance you may confuse him for a classic rock star. Known to give highly energetic performances while having a flamboyant sense of style, he sure knows how to capture your attention. When listening to his music it is easy to get lost through his amazing vocal range and catchy selection of beats. With that said, his lyrics can easily go over your head. His complex verbiage and intricate storytelling lift his music up another notch. He is definitely far from your average R&B artist.
His debut album “All I Want Is You” launched his career in 2010. It introduced the world to his wild and sexually provocative sound. In terms of commercial success, it started off slow as the label struggled to market Miguel. However, it became a huge hit with time and Miguel even saw his first number one single in ‘Sure Thing.’ Riding the wave of success, he then released his second solo effort in 2012 titled “Kaleidoscope Dream“. This time around he was even more involved in the creative process and the result was something that was so incredibly diverse and unlike any other R&B album. He had totally reinvented himself and his music definitely represented it. With the lead single ‘Adorn’, Miguel really broke into the mainstream and achieved unquestionable success in the form of a Grammy award for Best R&B Song in 2013.
He has now followed that up with his latest release on June 29th, 2015, Wildheart. In the same mould as his prior album, it carries on with the theme of his edgy and unique music which does not shy away from strong sexual subject matter. Here is his first single off Wildheart, ‘Coffee’
