JADE MICHAEL by MORGAN BENTLEY
Most fashion stylists whilst working on a photo shoot want to create an aura that can be communicated via the attire. Working on gathering an array of items to really showcase the beauty that is in very simple yet expressive clothing was the least of my worries, making sure the outfits spoke to my team and conveyed its feeling through the lens.
I went ahead and took 90’s colour ways and cloth textures into inspiration for the first outfit. Denim and bright Yellow with silver accents to give it a playful charm. The second outfit I went for a more muted graceful aesthetic, adding soft florals and lace sticking to the 90’s colour way yet looking at it from a more modern lens.
The team, locations and the different settings were not intensive & commercially viable. They were simple, hands on – we created for the love of creating. The photographer knew what he did best, taking risks to get the best angles, the hair stylist/ makeup artist was on guard, watching the models every move and stepping in whenever she felt the requirement to touch up and communicate suggestions. As for the model being a playful petite human, really displayed aliveness and brought to life the clothing that had been given to her.
From the point of view of a third person, the photoshoot was simple, participatory and fun! It comes to show that without big studios, without high ceilings and complex lighting systems. Even in the rain, with umbrellas and cold coffees it can add to the minimalistic character of a digital medium photoshoot. Organic & Simple.
