It was last spring where we began to make expansions to our platform & we were looking for a change up. We had been following photographer Nick Thiessen’s Instagram page for some time. We are always looking to connect and collaborate with local talent who’s vision and work ethic is in line with ours. We felt Nick had a very versatile style and we knew teaming up with him to create timeless images would be a great collaboration. After reaching out to him, we decided to meet for coffee and chat about ideas and some of the goals he had. We love meeting raw, talented artists and were even more taken back at Nick’s humble nature. We sensed a real, genuine thirst for creative photography and he informed us of his upcoming travels to Europe.

After mentioning he would be travelling to Paris, we let him know that our team could make the arrangements to find a muse for him to capture during his time out there. Enter, Malaïka Naninck. We had first come across the work she had done with Paris photographer Aaron Baltimore. Envisioning such a beauty paired with the effortless captures of Nick Thiessen, this photoshoot would be nothing short of a success. Sure enough when it came to selecting the final edits, it was one of the toughest selections we have made to date. Nick and Malaïka did such a incredible job, we never have struggled as much selecting edits with a set as we did with this.

You can definitely expect more work coming with Nick. We have some more major heat coming in the next few weeks and will be creating again this Spring/Summer. As for Malaïka, we definitely hope to be able to shoot with her again. So beautiful inside and out as you will learn in the interview below! Fun fact, both Nick and Malaïka share the same birthday, September 29th!

We know you will enjoy the set as much as we did. So with that, Just Breeze Magazine proudly presents LUCIOLEMalaïka Naninck by Nick Thiesssen.

JB Who are you and where are you from?

MN My name is Malaïka and I’m a French model from Paris, France.

JB Describe yourself using only 3 words.

MN Authentic, Adventurous & Independant

JB What is your favourite aspect of modeling and how/when did you first get started?

MN My favorite aspect of modeling would have to be the emotion that is transmitted through a captured image. It is like telling a story. It’s teamwork. Everybody brings their own creative energy, own vision of beauty. I think anytime you can touch people and feed their imagination, that is when when you know you’ve created a good picture. I did my first photoshoot when I was 14. But I wasn’t too into it and was really shy and not very confident. It wasn’t until later on I did some shoots like this but it was as recent as two years ago that I decided to do this full time.

JB Which models currently inspire you?

MN Jessica Lee Buchanon

JB Jessica is amazing!

Outside of modeling, what else inspires you?

MN To discover the world. Meeting all sorts of new people all around the globe. I love to plan new adventures.

JB What was the last gift you received and who was it from?

MN A bottle of Vodka from my ex boyfriend 😂

JB Was that his way of trying to win you back? By getting you tipsy? 😄

MN Hahah maybe! He came to see me from Zurich for the weekend but we are just friends now 🙂

JB So do you think it’s possible for ex’s to be “just friends”?

MN Yes, I  think it’s possible when you don’t have feelings anymore but usually one of the two still have feelings… So sometimes it’s better to just take different path for a while.

JB Agreed. Time apart is a necessity and in due time you can see if a friendship is salvagable.

What is the first thing about a guy that draws your interest?

MN I would say charisma. Then his eyes… and then smile..

JB How would you define love?

MN Love can’t be defined but only felt. And it’s always different every time

JB What are the 3 most played songs in your music player?

MN Depends when you check, it is always changing. Right now they are:

“Windmills Of Your Mind” by Polo & Pan

“Hypnotize U” by N.E.R.D

“You Got Me” by The Roots ft. Erykah Badu & Eve

JB If you could be any animal, which animal would you be and why?

MN A black panther! They are very beautiful, majestic and independent.

JB Good choice! You’re right they are very majestic!

If you only had 6 months to live, what would you do with the time?

MN Complete my bucket list which includes:
-bungee jumping
-go to Tibet to visit a Buddhist temple
-take a road trip in India and go to an Ashram
-go to watch Aurora Borealis
-meet a Chaman in Peru
-see the carnival in Brazil
then end my days in Bali a place that I’ve always really liked.

JB That’s a nice little bucket list you got there.

What is your biggest fear?

MN I would have to say losing the ability to walk or something where I would have to depend on somebody else.

JB That would be really unfortunate. I think alot of people take what abilities and choices we have for granted. While we still can, we should travel and experience. We should be grateful for everything we have along with the opportunities available to us.

MN Yes you are totally right. Be grateful everyday for our lives.

JB What is your biggest regret in life?

MN I don’t have any regrets because for me everything is an experience. This is how you learn a lot in life, by making mistakes and learning from your experiences. I don’t have regrets because whatever has happened in the past has made me who I am today. despite my mistakes.

JB Great response! Very inspiring. ♥

JB If you could remove one piece of modern technology, what would it be?

MN I would say Internet because it has disconnected human beings from eachother… But on the other hand it ‘s also very useful…

JB I think many people would lose their minds if that was to happen. But I understand where you’re coming from. It connects you to people who are so far yet disconnects you from everybody around you.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things you would bring.🌴

MN 1.My diary because I love to write.
2.My iPod because I can’t live without music
3.Water

JB Hahah what about when you run out of ink?

MN Hmm well I’ll write on the sand but far from the ocean so it doesn’t wash up hahaha.. and when I run out of battery life I’ll sing!

JB Very clever. 👍

What does your workout routine currently consist of? How do you stay motivated?

MN I went back to the gym this Monday and I do 25 minutes of cardio. Intervals of 2 minites speed walking and 1:30 minutes of running. Followed by 20 minutes of abs and again 25 minutes of cardio followed by the sauna. All this 3 times a week. And sometimes at home I do yoga. I love bikram yoga! In this industry, your body is your salary… kind of. So I have to take care of my body. Plus it’s very good for the spirit as well 🙂

JB You’re right. It’s also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Increases productivity, energy levels and your mood. Builds confidence also.

If you were to have a movie based on your life, which actress would you hand pick to play the role of you?

MN I would love for Zoe Kravitz to play as me. She is stunning! She has such an aura and energy I really love her style.

JB Good choice in Zoë. 👍

Who is the most inspirational figure to you and why?

MN Someone who inspires me and I would love to meet is Amma. I’m really amazed by the way that someone can touch people with their energy. Amma spreads so much love and kindness and sparks hope. We need more people like her in the world especially right now with all what’s happening.

JB Agree. So much going on its sad to see. We should be coming together. Instead, you just see wars and conflicts intensifying.

JB What is one thing you would do to make the world a better place?

MN I would teach children how to meditate and help them learn not to be controlled by their fears. We should all do this 10 minutes a day. 🙂

JB That’s interesting. Children are very innocent and shouldn’t have to be exposed to the troubles today. But fear is something we should all learn to embrace and conquer because otherwise it only creates limitations and keeps us in a box.

In your opinion, what do you feel is the biggest crisis or injustice in the world today?

MN I think famine. It is something that I don’t understand especially when I see so much food people can throw away. And also when you know how much some these big companies generate, they should redistribute to buy food to poor people. I’m sure there is a way to help them.

JB You’re right. This is a big issue and nobody should have to worry about food. It’s heartbreaking. Good on you to recognize and shed some light on it.

Before finishing up. We have the open mic – If there is any message you would like to send to the audience, now is your time!

MN Thank you! It was a pleasure. I would like to say always trust yourself, no matter how you think people see you. Be proud of the human being you are. Have fun, be crazy, spread love and just smile because you are perfect as you are and life is a big journey worth to be fully lived.
