JASMINE LORIMER by ALEX BARREDO

MODEL : JASMINE LORIMER | PHOTOGRAPHER : ALEX BARREDO | HAIR & MAKE UP : SARA ROSE | WARDROBE STYLIST : HOLLY MARIA (THE STYLE COVET) | SHOP : INFLUENCE STYLE DAILY |

When discussing a plan to shoot with good friend and talented photographer Alex Barredo, he made mention of a vision he had of shooting in golden sun light with tall, dead, yellow grass. We didn’t exactly need a reason to shoot with the lovely Jasmine Lorimer as she was on our radar. We had a few locations in mind but had to scratch them because they weren’t up to par and we just didn’t want to settle for anything less than what we had in mind. The location we decided to use is situated near the Vancouver International Airport and is a great spot to wait for arrival flights. Airplanes were actually flying over us as they were descending to land. It was pretty cool to see. The setting at this location was perfect for what we envisioned! You would think the area would have been busier because of the beauty of the location, but we did a great job scouting and made sure it was a very low traffic spot to avoid any delays or setbacks.

We were excited at the opportunity to work with Jasmine. In addition to being an absolute beauty, she is very kind and really down to earth. Sounds so cliche, but through our interactions, she was really kind, sweet and remained super respectful throughout the entire day. It was a pleasure working with her for the first time and since then we have become big fans and friends :). There is no question that we will be collaborating with her again in the future. In addition to modeling, Jasmine also styles hair, so if you are in Vancouver and are in need of a stylist, be sure to hit her up! Since we did the shoot, she recently made a cameo appearance in the ‘Where You Want Me‘ music video by King And Cash. Go girl!

Leading up to the shoot and even before the idea for this shoot transpired, our team members had been in talks with stylist and editor extraordinaire, Holly Maria, about collaborating on some projects. We felt this was the perfect opportunity to open that door and to begin creating. She did a tremendous job of styling with the wardrobes provided by a Kelowna based boutique ‘Influence Style Daily’ and was a great personality to have on set. Our team would like to send a big thank you to everyone who made this possible. Shoutout to Sara Rose for an amazing job on the make-up as well. Be sure to tune in to the first season of the Canadian Edition of the Bachelorette on September 13th where she will be finding love. With no further delay, just Breeze Magazine proudly presents our latest eVo project – #ALECTRONA: Jasmine Lorimer by Alex Barredo.

JB What is your favourite aspect about modeling?

JL My favourite aspect about modelling is the creative collaboration between the model and the photographer. I love anything visual. So when I can be part of a team of people who are able to come together and create a beautiful image, that’s pretty satisfying for me.

JB If you weren’t modeling, what would be your ideal career and why?

JL I’ve never thought of modelling as a career choice for me, just something I do for fun. But if I wasn’t modelling, I would either be doing hair (which is what I’ve been in the business of for 8 years and absolutely love) or I’d be organizing travel tours and somehow making a living from it….Or a film/video/photo editor…Or a writer.

JB What is your biggest turn ON in a guy?

JL My biggest turn on in a guy is his intellect. The reason for that is because it creates the subcategories for all the other things that turn me on in a guy, such as his wit, his ability to dive into a conversation, his attention to detail…Mental stimulation from a partner is probably my #1. So yes. Intellect.

JB If you could take home one animal from the zoo, which one would it be?

JL It’d be a goat. Preferably of the baby variety. I had a couple goats growing up and they’re the weirdest things…I also really enjoy YouTubing goat videos and that has made my love grow stronger. If you haven’t gone down the YouTube-goat-video-wormhole, I suggest you do that next.

JB What advice would you give to a guy trying to approach a female at her place of work?

JL Probably not approach her at her work…But if you absolutely must…I would just give her a nice compliment, pass her your number on a piece of paper so that she won’t have to go grab her phone and type it in (awkward in front of her co-workers) and then leave. Make it a friendly and casual approach without any pressure. Allow her to make the call later.

JB What is the first thing about a guy that draws your interest?

JL It would have to be the way he interacts with me. Small talk doesn’t do it for me. Sometimes it’s necessary in certain situations, but if a guy can jump into a conversation that branches out from the regular “what do you do?” “How was your day?” “Oh ya that’s cool,” “I have a nice view from my apartment,” I’d be glad.

JB Can you cook? What is your specialty?

JL I can cook and I like to cook. My favourite show as a child was “James Barber: Urban Peasant” (we had 3 channels so give me a break). He made basic meals with lots of pepper and if you remember this show, I would be so impressed. My specialty is my guacamole (not a James Barber recipe).

JB Who is your favorite artist/band at the moment? All time?

JL My favourite artist at the moment was actually just recently recommended to me. His name is Leon Bridges. He has super soulful, retro vibe but he’s a current artist. Definitely worth a listen. Check out his songs “Coming Home” and “Better Man.” My favourite artist of all time is a tough one…I really like The Beatles but my first favourite band (aside from Fred Penner) was Steve Miller Band. Song pick from Stevie and the crew: “Rock’n Me.”

JB What is your favourite color? How would you describe it to a blind person?

JL My favourite colour is sea foam green. I would describe it terribly to a blind person but this is what I think of…”It tastes like saltwater taffy but it’s soft like cotton candy on your tongue. It sounds like distant waves rolling into a soft, sandy beach. It feels like a vicuña blanket and it smells sweet and fresh like the ocean air.” Wow. They’d have no idea.

JB Who is the most inspirational figure you know?

JL I don’t know this inspirational figure but it fits into my life now as someone I’m inspired by. His name was John Goddard and he was an adventurer and world traveler who decided at the age of 15 to create a life full of excitement and exploration. He didn’t want to wait until he was older to go out and experience things, he wanted to create his own fulfillment now.

JB What is the most exciting place you have traveled to?

JL It would probably be Bolivia. We went on some wild excursions in the Andes, camped out in a tree house in the Amazon and shopped at the witch markets in La Paz. It was just a whole different world and the least touristy place that I’ve been to, which I really liked. You really felt the culture shock in the best way possible.

JB What is one thing you would do to make the world a better place?

JL One thing I would do to make the world a better place is just to try to spread love and positivity to everyone I meet. It’s important to smile and be pleasant with the people you come across. Doesn’t it feel good to have a positive interaction with a stranger? I would be happy to make a point of making that happen at least once every day and hopefully that energy would transfer onward to the next and the next and the next.

JB If you were to have a movie based on your life, which actor would you hand pick to play the role of you?

JL I would choose Rachel McAdams to play my role. People think we look similar, she seems nice and she’s Canadian.

JB What advice would you give to an aspiring model?

JL I would tell them to be themselves and be free and open with the camera but remember to maintain your boundaries!!! Know how you want your image to be represented and don’t ever veer from that in an attempt to make anyone else happy but yourself.

JB In your opinion, what do you feel is the biggest crisis or injustice in the world today?

JL The biggest crisis and injustice in our world today, in my opinion, is the social and religious clash we’re experiencing worldwide. There needs to be some widespread awareness happening amongst everybody. We need to be on each other’s team…and the sad thing is that it’s probably never going to happen. Too many deep-rooted differences. My solution is to have some aliens make an appearance so that we can all become a little more humbled and come down to earth (baddum-ch!). So if any aliens are reading this, give us a hand, eh?

JB Playing the Love Doctor for a minute, what advice would you give to someone in a relationship who is trying to get their partner to understand the importance of life experiences and traveling vs living in a material world?

JL My advice to this person would be to move on. If someone you’re with is more focused on the material things in life rather than the experiences they can have, that’s fine, but it will never line up with what you value. I have a friend who I respect and adore and she was telling me about a $5,000 purse that she wanted. It sounds insane to me because the first thing that goes through my mind is, “I could go on two trips with that!!” But in her mind, once she had gone on those two trips, she’d be left with nothing to show for it. The trips would be over but she would have still had her purse. It’s just a matter of perspective though. I look at it as though I am left with those life experiences and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. I’ve become a stronger person and I’ve learned how to organize, be independent, adapt more easily to new environments and appreciate even more what I have in my life. To me, that’s more valuable than a purse. If your partner still can not see that, I think the disconnection in your personalities is too strong.
