It’s official. Easter is over and I bet you feel like you’ve eaten 20 pounds worth of chocolate and have enough left over to feed 1000? Whether you celebrate Easter or not, it’s common to overindulge in food sometimes, particularly over set holidays or special occasions. The temptation is too much and I personally don’t want to miss out on all the fun.

So, if you feel as though you have slightly crossed the line these holidays, this article is for you! Below are my top 7 tips for bouncing back to feeling like your slimmer, fitter self after a naughty bender.

Be Kind To Yourself

Start by telling yourself it’s ok. If you’ve had a weekend of binge eating or drank three glasses of wine instead of one – don’t worry. We’re all human and we all do it! Being hard on yourself only causes extra stress and negativity which will cause you to hold back. Clear your mind and remember that there is no reason that you shouldn’t enjoy the tastier things in life. Once it’s done, move on and put it behind you. Try taking a yoga class or a morning swim to ease yourself into an exercise regimen. This will also help clear your mind and decrease any stress that you may have.

Make Water Your New Best Friend

Drinking water will help flush out all the toxins in your body and keep you hydrated and energised throughout the day. Try to drink between 2 – 3 litres per day and make sure you drink a tall glass of water before going to bed and another when you wake up. If you’re not keen on plain water, try adding slices of strawberries, lemon, or cucumber to add a bit of taste.

Make Use Of The Sun

It’s officially spring and the sun should be making more of an appearance (hopefully). Make use of the weather and visit your local sights. Do your workout down at the local park, go for a bike ride, or even play some football with your family on the lawn. These things will keep you active while you soak in the Vitamin D from the sun which is not only good for you, but it will make you happier, more energised, and possibly give you a tan (bonus)! When doing physical activity outdoors remember to use a suitable sun cream as too much sun can be harmful and damage the skin.

Make An Exercise Program

Make a weekly program for yourself of about 3 – 4 days, worth of 1 hour exercise workouts. Bring a friend along which will enable you to stay focused and determined. Add workouts such as upper body, lower body, low intensity cardiovascular, and HIIT workouts.

Join Local Exercise Classes

I know how hard it can be to push and motivate yourself to go to the gym, especially after a long day at work or with the kids. Use the Internet to track down any local exercise classes such as dance, aerobics, swimming, running, etc. Joining a new club will give you a new skill, help with stress and anxiety, and push you to socialize and meet new people. Meeting new people with the same interests and passion as yours is a bonus and hey, you never know. They may become a new fitness buddy who will help you stay motivated and focused.

Refill Your Cupboards & Fridge

It’s time for a spring clean and where better to start than your fridge and cupboards. Your kitchen may look like Willie Wonka’s Chocolate Factory after Easter weekend so go out and buy healthy meals and snacks that will help you throughout the day. Google new recipes that will get you excited about cooking and trying something new. The less junk food in your kitchen, the less temptation you will have.

Buy Yourself A New Outfit

There’s nothing more satisfying than buying a new outfit that helps you feel sexy and confident! Go out and treat yourself to new gym gear that will help you feel confident while working out, or buy yourself a stylish night out number that shows off your amazing figure. The more confident you feel, the happier you will be! One of my favourite little tips is to put a dollar in a money box every time you work out. Once you’ve gained the body you desired, buy a new outfit and show it off!

Being fit and healthy isn’t always about how you physically look, but how you feel mentally as well. Making little changes will help you gain confidence, keep you excited, and bring passion and motivation to achieve your goals. Look after yourself and keep smiling!
